Colors!

We have been very busy getting to know all about first grade. We started with a little review of color. I know first graders know their colors really well, so we take it to the next step.

On the first day of school, we had magic dough!  It started off plain and boring.  If the students were going to have a great year, the magic dough would turn a color.

Then, we talked about primary colors. We read the story of Mouse Paint and played around with mixing primary colors (just like in the story).

We also painted mice with watercolors.  The students could only use primary colors.

We finished our color review with a fall painting project using warm and cool colors.  The first graders traced leaves on their paper using oil pastels in only warm colors.

The first graders painted all the leaves using warm colors.  The had to water color each leaf using a different warm color than the oil pastel.

To finish their project, the students painted the background using only cool colors.

You can see these spectacular art projects on the windows of room 102.
