Colors!

We have been very busy getting to know all about first grade. We started with a little review of color. I know first graders know their colors really well, so we take it to the next step.

On the first day of school, we had magic dough!  It started off plain and boring.  If the students were going to have a great year, the magic dough would turn a color.

Then, we talked about primary colors. We read the story of Mouse Paint and played around with mixing primary colors (just like in the story).

We also painted mice with watercolors.  The students could only use primary colors.

We finished our color review with a fall painting project using warm and cool colors.  The first graders traced leaves on their paper using oil pastels in only warm colors.

The first graders painted all the leaves using warm colors.  The had to water color each leaf using a different warm color than the oil pastel.

To finish their project, the students painted the background using only cool colors.

You can see these spectacular art projects on the windows of room 102.

So...you are in room 102!!!

Happy Friday to you!
Right now (or very, very soon) you are finding out that you are a student in room 102! I hope you know one or two other first graders in our class. I have to admit, I actually don't know many of you! Luckily, the first day of school will be here soon and we will get to meet each other. :) I am so excited for school to start!!

I came home this afternoon and started my homework. Yes, teachers have homework, too!!! I love teacher homework...a lot. I get to put cute new stickers on your first day name tags, and finish some gluing projects. Piper, my little dog, loves to help with homework. When she was a puppy, she even ate my homework! Now, she sits next to me on the floor and watches what I am doing.
Here's a picture of Piper~

Hello Room 102!

I just finished putting together your first day of school books. I was cutting and stapling and gluing and...

thinking about YOU!

I was wondering what you are going to write. I think I already know what your favorite page is going to be. I wondered what you like to do more - color or write. I can't wait to find out!!!

Room 102 is just about ready for you. I get to put your nametags on your desks (I love making tape donuts!! If you don't know what those are, I will be happy to show you!!), sharpen pencils for you to use, put out a quick activity for you to do Tuesday morning, and re-direct some *ants*. Did you know ants love to come to school? It's true!
